Abstract/Summary:
Animal Tracks features a series of oil paintings presenting various small creatures, each beast engaged in assorted activities within its respective habitat. The written portion of this project collates the writer's philosophy and methodologies with such contemporary artists as Pablo Picasso, Marc Chagall, and Landon MacKenzie. The inquiry also compares and analyzes the writer's painted series with representational works by those artists. Together, the painted and written project illustrates the importance of the mythic heroic quest as a story type in the life of the writer in his effort to discover his own pattern. While the writer acknowledges that much of the introspective subject matter contained in many modern art works represent and express the individual personalities of the artists that conceived them, this composition's focus is specific in its conclusion that animals in contemporary art often become archetypic imprints of their creator's personality.*; *This dissertation includes a CD that is compound (contains both a paper copy and CD as part of the dissertation).
