Abstract/Summary:
This dissertation presents astrology as an archetypal lens for psychologically understanding human personality. The mythological roots of the twelve signs of the zodiac are portrayed through the recounting of ancient Greek sagas. The history of astrology from its archaic beginnings to its place in contemporary culture is outlined. Astrology as an epistemological view that reflects unconscious structures of the psyche is presented as a theoretical construct of psychospiritual principles and significance. The fundamentals of astrology's conventions and definitions are detailed by describing the various elements that comprise both the horoscope as a mandalic form and its interpretation as a personality theory. Finally, a detailed astrological analysis of psychiatrist R. D. Laing is presented demonstrating the use of astrology as a theory of personality; the interpretation is supported by biographical material.
