Abstract/Summary:
The political situation of China has been unstable for quite sometime, and many Chinese are unhappy with the Communist policy and rule. Since the United States of America is a democratic country that advocates freedom of speech and in which the social and economic systems are comparatively more stable than most other countries, many Chinese immigrants when faced with a choice of destination choose to move to America.; The recent influx of Chinese immigrants to the United States is a result of students, exchange scholars, and businessmen who seek to become permanent residents or citizens instead of returning home. At the same time, there is also a marked increase in the descendants of early Chinese immigrants. Growing along with the Chinese population in the United States of America is the Chinese Christian churches.; However, because of the differences in language, customs, culture, and style of living, and the religious traditions of China, the Chinese Christian churches of North America face many problems trying to survive and grow.; This project takes into consideration the history of the Chinese people, especially conflicts in background and culture. It also considers the history of Chinese Christian churches, lessons to be learned from it and challenges faced, including how the Chinese Christian Churches of North America survive and develop in a land where two extremely different cultures co-exist. The project attempts to arouse a sense of duty among the Chinese churches to evangelize the ever-increasing Chinese population so that many will be baptized into the name of Jesus Christ. At the same time, this project includes a case study in which I use the church where I am currently ministering—the Chinese Christian Fellowship of Calvary Baptist Church of New Haven, Connecticut—as a practical and concrete reference.
