Abstract/Summary:
The research was conducted to determine general characteristics of community sport programs in the Republic of Korea, and to ascertain whether institutional and individual characteristics were associated with programming expectations and evaluations. Survey analysis was conducted with 1,200 managers and 1,200 participants (N = 2,400) in 200 community sport centers in Seoul and Incheon, South Korea. A 48-item survey instrument was developed. The questionnaire was administered by mail during August, 1994. The response rate was 68% (N = 1,639). Variables measuring expectations and evaluations were coded, as well as variables measuring institutional and individual demographic indicators. Crosstables were computed to measure association between demographic variables, expectation variables, and evaluation variables. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and proportional-reduction-in-error measures, including Goodman and Kruskal's tau for nominal-level data and Spearman's rank-order coefficient for ordinal data. The results showed that center size, community size, and funding type have strong effects on expectations and evaluations, as do age, degrees attained, and major.
