Abstract/Summary:
The purpose of this research was to investigate students' perceptions on the effectiveness of feedback in online classes. This research was focused on a sample of graduate students who were taking online classes through Blackboard at Central Missouri State University (CMSU) during the 2003 spring and fall semesters. Four graduate students were interviewed during the 2003 spring semester and out of 100 graduate students 53 volunteered to take the survey during the 2003 fall semester.; Using an online survey on Blackboard, it was found that the majority of participants seek individualized, detailed, timely and regular feedback from their instructors in online classes. The analysis of the data also indicated that, the majority of students who participated in this study associate useful feedback with receiving a paragraph describing their strengths and how to improve their work and they perceive e-mail as the most useful method of receiving feedback.
