Abstract/Summary:
This is the first study that examines the current as well as the future of sport and physical education in Jordan as envisioned by Jordanian educators. The central research question asks how Jordanian educators view both the present and future situations of sport and physical education in their country.; To reveal the present and future visions of Jordanian educators of sport and physical education, two research methods are used in this dissertation. First, the researcher developed a questionnaire to collect data in order to obtain broad views toward both the present and future of Jordanian sport and physical education. Second, to establish a more detailed view of the research topic, the researcher engaged in an interviewing method that assisted in gaining a deeper understanding of the Jordanian educators' richly textured knowledge and experience in sport and physical education.; The study incorporates many questions into an examination of two fundamental aspects of Jordanian perceptions of the present and towards the future. First, chapter four examines how Jordanian educators view sport and physical education in the present, in the future, and from an Islamic perspective quantitatively by presenting the data analysis of the seventy-five statements of the study questionnaire. Second, chapter five analyzes the key findings of the current study qualitatively based on the research primary question. Six individuals participated in the interviewing methods through whom the researcher concluded the emergence of the following themes: views of the current and future situations, Jordanian competitive sport and professionalism, the need for a separation between sports and physical education, and the role of the media in terms of publicizing and promoting sports and physical activities throughout Jordan.; The findings and results of this study indicate that this study may serve as a model in order to plan for the future to improve the movement of Jordanian sports and physical education. To plan for the future, one ought to examine the present and to examine the present, one must understand the past. Finally, the evidence provides some support for the notion of visions towards the future of Jordanian sport and physical education, the findings are not particularly robust though. The study concludes with a discussion of how research might further explore the views of Jordanian decision-makers toward the future of sport and physical education.
