Abstract/Summary:
The purpose of this study was to combine four strategies into an intervention package to teach high school students with disabilities to prompt themselves to engage in recreational activities with their peers. Specifically, the intervention package included: (a) an assessment of participants' recreational activity goals, (b) picture prompt book training, (c) identification of naturally occurring stimuli in the environment, and (d) self-evaluation components. After training, all five students engaged in recreational activities with peers. Additionally, the quality of the students' interaction ratings increased after training. Findings and contributions to the literature are discussed and recommendations for future research are presented.
