Abstract/Summary:
The purpose of this study was to validate a multinational, graduate-level program in International Business. The specific program being validated is the North American International Business Program ( NAIBP), managed by the University Consortium of the Americas (UCA), with offices in Canada, Mexico, and the United States.;The review of the literature relating to the internationalization of graduate-level business curricula contained the following interconnected themes: international business curriculum driving forces; international business education consortia; the role of accreditation in achieving quality global educational systems; curriculum guidelines for university business programs; the diversity/conformance paradox of university business curricula; global management attitudes and skills; and international culture and management education.;The general methodology employed in this study was multimethod. Objective answers to four research questions were sought: (1) what key executive skills are required for success in the international business arena; (2) how these executive skills are acquired; (3) what courses that should be included in a graduate-level curriculum in International Business; and (4) whether or not the consortium MIB curriculum conformed to the findings of the research.;The following recommendations parallel the research questions and are presented as a result of this study: It is recommended that: (1) further research be conducted concerning the course series to be taken in each nation: Business in Canada; Business in Mexico; and Business in the United States; (2) further research be conducted concerning the efficacy of utilizing additional delivery modalities; (3) further research be conducted to determine whether or not coursework in these four areas be added to the consortium MIB curriculum; and (4) the methodology of this study to validate a graduate-level curriculum in International Business be applied to the validation of other content areas in the academic field of business, i.e., management, marketing, accounting, and the like. Additionally, the application of this validation process to other business areas could be used to demonstrate the following to institutional constituents: program quality, appropriate allocation of resources, and systematic response to governmental/accrediting agency validation issues.
