Abstract/Summary:
This study investigated the predictability of selected client characteristics and return-to-work outcomes. Logistic regression analysis was employed to determine which characteristic, or combination of characteristics, predict return-to-work outcomes.;Results of the statistical tests conducted suggested the following: (1) Statistically significant client characteristics were identified between SSDI and non-SSDI beneficiaries who returned to work. Of the 11 characteristics, six were significant; they included type of disability, marital status, insurance coverage, insurance employer, primary source of support, and earnings. (2) Earnings were a significant predictor of return to work. (3) Earnings from the analysis, primary source of income, and insurance employer were predictive of return-to-work case closures. (4) Individual and environmental client characteristics were interacting when jobs were obtained.;The samples consisted of 92 SSDI beneficiaries, and 92 non-SSDI beneficiaries, who participated in Montana's Federal-State Rehabilitation Program, and returned to work. All cases were closed during Fiscal Year 1994-1995. The data on 2,932 cases was provided by the State of Montana. Eleven client characteristics, including, age, gender, race, marital status, type of disability, primary source of support, public assistance amount, insurance coverage, insurance employer, educational level, and earnings were the independent variables. Return-to-work outcome, competitive employment, self-employment, or employment with a state agency managed enterprise was the dependent variable. Two research questions and 11 hypotheses were developed and tested. Six chi-square, five ANOVA, and two logistic regression analyses were conducted.
