Abstract/Summary:
This research examines and evaluates the development, promotion and implementation of a variety of green job plans initiated by the Green Jobs Unit in Australia, and by the General Workers Union in Denmark during the 1990's. Both the Australian and Danish programs took place in the context of widespread international discussion of green jobs, and of the necessity to incorporate employment considerations into environmental policies and vice versa. This report provides an extensive review of the related international literature. It also investigates the strengths and weaknesses of a variety of practical programs to integrate employment and environmental policies. And it provides information on the collaboration of unions and environmental organizations—supported in both instances by national governments—to define common sustainability goals, and collaborating to achieve them.
