Abstract/Summary:
My purpose in conducting this study is to measure the acceptance of the business management components of medical practice management information systems by pediatricians. This is a replication study though the sample population of pediatricians and construct of practice management information systems are novel.; The study was performed within the context of the Technology Acceptance Model where an assessment is made of the association between perceptions of ease of use and usefulness, and the intent of actual usage.; It is vital for pediatricians, as primary care physicians, to closely monitor the financial health of their medical practices. The business management function of practice management information systems provides access to business indicators critical to the financial viability of the medical practice. Pediatricians have been slow to adopt the use of business management utilities and are thus inadequately prepared to make key business decisions for their medical practices.; A self-reporting survey developed by Davis coincidental to his Technology Acceptance Model has been nominally modified to collect data for this study. A cover letter and questionnaire was mailed to 2,729 general practice pediatricians with medical practices in eight states located along and adjacent to the Rocky Mountains. Data analysis paralleled the techniques employed in prior research using the Technology Acceptance Model, principally factor analysis and tests for goodness of fit.; This study measures the association exists between the perceived ease of use and usefulness, and the intent to use the business reporting functions of practice management information systems. The results of this study provide further understanding of the dynamics of perceived usefulness, ease of use, and intent to use for the population of general practice pediatricians.; A presentation of the findings, and implications, recommendations and opportunities for further study are presented.
