Abstract/Summary:
This study examined the relationship between job satisfaction and intention to leave among pharmaceutical specialty sales representatives (SSRs). The study also measured variations in these antecedents based on several socio-demographic variables (i.e., age, gender, tenure, salary, & marital status). Organizational practices critical to retention and turnover were also explored. The Job Satisfaction Survey (JSS) and the Staying or Leaving Index (SLI) were the instruments used. The results indicated a strong, inverse relationship between job satisfaction and intention to leave (r = −0.51). There was no difference in job satisfaction based on most of the socio-demographic characteristics assessed. A similar pattern was observed for intention to leave, however, intention to leave varied by age with younger employees endorsing higher scores.
