Abstract/Summary:
There is significant evidence that e-business has the potential to generate phenomenal gains in organizational performance. Preliminary studies show that most brick and mortar companies are not realizing the full potential of e-business, partly attributing this to the lack of organizational capabilities needed to implement e-business. The objective of this study was to examine some potential organizational behavior drivers of radical innovation adoption in firms, in the context of e-business.; Using the resource-based view of the firm as a theoretical foundation, this study focused specifically on e-business adoption in the hotel industry as indicative of this industry's capacity to innovate and progress towards e-business as a competitive strategy. It was hypothesized that higher degrees of organizational learning, market orientation, business process orientation and technological opportunism were related to higher degrees of e-business adoption within hotels in Florida.; Using a self-reported survey, the obtained sample consisted of 160 general managers of hotels containing 100 rooms or more in Florida. A total of ten independent variables were tested as potential predictors of e-business. Using multiple regression, two variables, team orientation and technology response, were positively correlated to e-business adoption. While no support was found for the other eight hypothesized relationships, several explanations are suggested, including an emphasis on e-business as a technology and not as an integral part of business practices.; The results have significant implications to both practitioners and researchers. Hotel managers in Florida can develop better guidelines for creating an organizational environment conducive to successful e-business practices. Several directions are suggested for future research, including structural modeling to analyze the relationships between all of the variables proposed in this study.
