Abstract/Summary:
This purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of a self-paced, self-directed computer-based training (CBT) course for teaching hands-on manual craft skills. This effectiveness was assessed by comparing CBT course completion times, final examination scores, and students' satisfaction levels with instructor-led and classroom-delivered course completion times, final examination scores, and students' satisfaction levels.;A test group of 25 telecommunications maintenance craft workers took the CBT course, and the results were compared to a control group of 83 telecommunications maintenance craft workers who took the instructor-led and classroom-delivered version of the same course.;The results were that the test group students who took the CBT course, completed the course in significantly less time, and scored significantly higher on the final examination than did the control group students, who took the instructor-led and classroom-delivered version of the course. A comparison of the course satisfaction levels between the two groups indicated that students in the control group were significantly more satisfied with the instructor-led and classroom-delivered version of the course than were the students in test group.
