Abstract/Summary:
A simulation model, MRISSA, was developed for simulation and analysis of municipal refuse incineration systems (MRISs). The model was developed by dividing it into four categories, namely furnace combustion conditions, waste heat utilization (including flue gas cooling), air pollution control (including particulate and acidic flue gas control), and air pollutant dispersion simulation. The model considered two main control parameters which are the flue gas temperatures at furnace outlet and at air pollution control device (APCD) inlet, respectively. The model may be used to calculate the amount of supplemental fuel and cooling air so as to satisfy the furnace temperature criteria. The consideration of waste heat utilization or the required flue gas cooling in the MRISSA model is based on the heat to be released between the furnace and the APCDs. The MRISSA model allows the recovered heat to be distributed to generate steam/electricity, preheat the combustion air, and produce warm water. The air pollution control simulation executed by the MRISSA model provides both a design version and a screening version which may be used to calculate the efficiencies of APCDs and the air pollutant concentrations emitted. The emitted air pollutants may be simulated by the MRISSA model, according to the user specified meteorological data, to obtain their dispersed downwind concentrations presented in a graphical format. The MRISSA model was verified simultaneously with the model development.; A parametric study of MRISs was executed by the application of the MRISSA model. The results obtained using the MRISSA model were found to offer valuable information for the design and operation of MRISs.; It is anticipated that use of the MRISSA model will provide many benefits to the development of improved incineration processes for future environmental control.
