A study was conducted to investigate the performance of a number of advanced ceramic tool materials with varying tool geometry and edge preparation. In addition to performance evaluation, it was proposed that the improved properties of these materials should relax the demand of bulky edges which was necessary with earlier ceramic materials as an excuse for their poor properties.;Specifically, different Si;Almost all outputs were measured or observed to provide a comprehensive evaluation of tool performance. These are, flank wear, crater wear, chipping, fracture, unit power and surface finish.;The tests have shown that Al... |
