Abstract/Summary:
vapor compression cycle with a solution circuit and a desorber/absorber heat exchanger (DAHX) using the ammonia/water mixture was investigated experimentally and theoretically. The DAHX cycle is expected to provide a high temperature lift at very low pressure ratio. It is the goal of this dissertation to study and demonstrate its performance potential. A breadboard heat pump was designed and built to test the cycle performance. COPs in the range of 1.2 to 1.8 were obtained experimentally for a temperature lift between 60 and 80;A computer program to simulate DAHX cycles using ammonia/water properties was written as a UA model. The comparison of the simulation performance of the DAHX system and the single-stage system was conducted. At the temperature lift of 72;Also, a solution bypass between the Absorber I outlet and Desorber II inlet was proposed to improve the cycle performance. The simulation results showed that there was no difference in COP, however the temperature lift increased slightly. The experimental results showed that the COP varied in the range of 1-2%, the temperature lift increased by 0 to 6;A comparison between the simulation and the experiment was conducted. The difference in COP between the simulation and the experiment is in the range of...
