Abstract/Summary:
Naval ship design is a lengthy iterative decision-making process. This research attempts to develop an intelligent decision support system (IDSS) in order to increase total design quality.; This IDSS is built by integrating the existing conventional naval ship design software applications with a knowledge based system. Modeling tools such as spreadsheet, database management system, and graphic display techniques are employed. The information of the general practices derived from ship designers' expertise is the major knowledge required for this system.; The IDSS will generate feasible design alternatives and make an evaluation based on multiattribute decision analysis approach such as analytic hierarchy process and point allocation method. Then a recommendation will be made by the system. During the system operation process, the user--ship designer--has full interface capability with the IDSS to provide a variety of information required by IDSS. The communication among designers and the interaction between designers and computers are thus enhanced.
