This dissertation is the first attempt of a comprehensive study of a practical composite load model in the power system with specific emphasis in the areas of steady state, static, and dynamic composite load models. All these models are composed of existing unitary components models. These models, which include the effects of distribution feeders, service transformers, and capacitor banks, form the complete substation load models for load flow and stability studies in transmission systems without the necessity of a detailed simulation. In conclusion, this dissertation has improved some application difficulties of existing component load models, and further, recommends the typical composite load models and machine data for user's choice. Of particular significance is the fact that load protective devices were incorporated into the load simulations in transient stability studies for the first time.
