Newton's method is applied in the primitive variable formulation to solve the system of fully elliptic equations governing two-dimensional chemically reacting flows. This new numerical approach is compared to Newton's method in the stream function-vorticity formulation and the SIMPLER algorithm in the calculations of an axisymmetric laminar diffusion flame in a confined coflowing jet using a flame sheet model. The results indicate that Newton's method in the primitive variable formulation gives a better performance in terms of accuracy and computing time.;The proposed numerical approach is also employed to solve the same diffusion flame using a reduced mechanism, a skeletal mechanism, a... |
