Abstract/Summary:
Limited empirically validated research in the areas of human sexuality exists, particularly within couples studies. Given this, therapy is often ineffective within certain populations. In order to provide best treatment, therapists must be knowledgeable in the areas of sexual and relational satisfaction in partnered relationships. This dissertation examines the impact of attachment style on couples' sexual satisfaction in monogamous relationships. Prior research suggests that individuals with secure attachment styles have higher levels of sexual satisfaction. This study analyzed the impact of attachment style on sexual satisfaction within monogamous relationships. Although similar research has been conducted, the actual couple's account of both their own and their partner's levels of sexual satisfaction have not been assessed. Therefore, this dissertation examined if couples are in agreement in terms of their sexual satisfaction. Finally, this dissertation examined the interaction effects of race, age, cohabitation status, and sexual orientation as prior research has not explicitly looked at these factors. This studied sampled 38 couples using online surveys including: The Adult Attachment Scale, the Relationship Style Questionnaire, and the New Sexual Satisfaction.
