Abstract/Summary:
The purpose of the dissertation was to analyze the work of Jose Porfirio Miranda as a biblical theology with distinct contributions for the contemporary theological and ecclesial task. Chapter two presented the biblical foundations of Miranda's understanding of justice as the central meaning of "knowing Yahweh" and the unifying theme of biblical theology.;Chapter four offered an integration of Miranda's treatment of major biblical themes under the systematic topics of Theology, Christology, and Soteriology. Specific criticisms against Miranda's positions (and, to some extent, against Liberation theology in general) were addressed in chapter five, in which praxis was defined as the commitments toward the social order (either as it is, or as it should be) brought into the theological endeavor by all theologians.;The author concluded that Miranda offers significant contributions to the effort for biblical theology: in providing a well-documented center and critical norm for biblical interpretation, in demonstrating a profound relatedness between Old Testament and New Testament, in demonstrating a convincing merging of horizons between what the Bible "meant" and "what it means" for us, and in modelling a theology which is in itself a commitment of faith.;Clarifications of a Marxian analysis for a current understanding and praxis of justice were examined in Chapter three. The discussion was based on Miranda's interpretation and appropriation of the works of Marx and Engels.
