Abstract/Summary:
The purpose of this study is to collect, analyze, and assess Supreme, Appellate, and District Court case law to determine the extent recommendations from the Equality of Educational Opportunity Survey (often called the Coleman Report) regarding desegregation and achievement were utilized in legal decisions.;This study will utilize historical, legal, and analytical methods. The study is composed of three parts: (1) history and review of the literature; (2) classification by inclusion of data base of court cases; (3) analysis of court cases.;The use of the Coleman Report coincides with judicial activism cases in the early 1970's at the District Court level. The lack of the use of the Coleman Report coincides with past and current periods of judicial self-restraint.
