Abstract/Summary:
The purpose of this qualitative phenomenological study was to explore the lived experiences of fraud investigators in combating identity theft fraud. The theoretical foundation for this study was outlined by the fraud triangle model, differential association, and neutralization theory to gain insight into strategies to combat identity theft fraud. The purposive sample used 15 fraud investigators from the South Florida region, who were able to provide rich insight into this phenomenon. Data collection consisted of interpretive phenomenological analysis of the semi-structured, in- depth interviews of the participants. The results of this study add significant information on identity theft fraud and its prevention from the perspective of the fraud investigator.
