Abstract/Summary:
There is a body of literature demonstrating that divorce, and its associated series of socio-emotional and legal events have extensive implications for the families involved. Perhaps less obvious, are the problems that arise as a result of the legal system that exists to execute the divorce. This project will look at the disconnections and conflicts the divorcing couple and their family experience, and the divorce process in which those conflicts reside in. It will propose a methodology for reducing these conflicts, a proposed, model curriculum for Divorce Coaching.;If there is to be any hope of correcting or preventing the collateral damage known to be associated with divorce, the various professionals who have access to this population need to be made aware of the compelling evidence that will be presented throughout this project. Thus, the ultimate purpose of this demonstration project is twofold. First, it will endeavor to determine the methodologies, techniques, skills, and characteristics that a competent and effective coach should possess. This will be accomplished by integrating the information gained from two sources: a thorough review of the related literature, and interviews conducted with professionals who have first-hand experience with the various aspects of this process. Second, this project will attempt to formulate and create an appropriate and ethical model curriculum.
