Abstract/Summary:
The purpose of this study was to explore senior high school teachers' computer literacy, attitude toward computers, and experience with computers in West Sumatra and Riau, Indonesia. Teachers completed a demographic questionnaire, a computer literacy test, an attitude toward computers test, and a questionnaire about their experience with computers. Administrators answered the demographic questionnaire and an attitude toward computers questionnaire. The computer literacy test was adapted from a test developed by The Minnesota Educational Computing Consortium.; The mean scores for computer literacy, attitude toward computers and experience with computers were correlated and compared based on various demographic information. Statistical analyses used to examine the result were Pearson Product Moment correlation, T-Test and oneway ANOVA.; The statistical analysis provided the following results: (a) Teachers' computer literacy was low, (b) The attitude toward computers mean score for teachers was somewhat lower than that for administrators, (c) Teachers' experience with computers was low, (d) Male teachers lead female teachers in computer literacy scores and experience with computers but had no difference in attitude toward computers, (e) There was a significant difference in computer literacy based on age group with younger teachers having higher literacy scores, (f) Mathematics teachers had a better score in computer literacy and experience with computers than other teachers, (g) A significant difference in computer literacy and experience with computers was found between teachers who had participated in computer training and those who had not.
