Abstract/Summary:
The primary purposes of this study were to (1) find out the content, scope and extent of educational technology (ET) training available in the curricula of 63 ALA accredited library schools (LSs), in the U.S.A.; (2) determine the factors that influenced the development or militated against the expansion of ET programs or courses in the 63 LSs.;The findings indicated that: (1) only 2 of the 37 responding LSs had a masters degree program in ET; (2) responding LSs have many library-media certificate programs; (3) many ET courses, seminars and educational facilities listed in the questionnaires were found in the LS programs; (4) many LS educators depended mostly on the School of Education media facilities and equipment and used them extensively for their teaching; (5) availability of LS educators with interests in ET, of media facilities and utility of ET to LS graduates influenced greatly the development of ET in LSs; (6) lack of adequate financial support and overload of LS curricula with other subject areas militated against the expansion of ET in LSs. Contrary to some educators' criticisms of the indifference of LSs toward ET, the findings indicated that LSs have extensively integrated, into their curricula, many courses found in ET programs in the U.S.A.;Two questionnaires (QI, QII) were developed. QI which asked for specific information on ET in the LSs, was sent to one LS administrator in each LS. Thirty-seven of the 63 responded. QII which asked for LS educators' opinions about ET in LS curricula was sent to 6 LS educators randomly sampled from faculty members in each LS. There were 237 respondents of the 378 who received QII.
