Abstract/Summary:
This study was designed to determine if length of vocational agriculture teacher contract was related to both Future Farmers of America chapter activity level and supervised occupational experience program scope. Two questionnaires were used to gather data. The first questionnaire gathered information from 52 central Florida vocational agriculture teachers concerning FFA chapter activity level and six extraneous variables: length of teaching experience, percentage of students from a rural area, teacher having a part-time job, extent to which teacher had high school vocational agriculture, teacher perception of release time available, and teacher perception of travel money available. The second questionnaire gathered information from twelfth grade students regarding the scope of supervised occupational experience programs and the number of supervisory home visits they received.;Using step-wise multiple regression, supervised occupational experience program scope was significantly related with length of teaching contract and percentage of students from a rural area when all other variables were statistically controlled. FFA chapter activity level was not significantly related with any of the independent variables when extraneous variables were held constant.;Pearson product moment correlation coefficients and step-wise multiple regression analysis were used to test the major hypotheses. Findings revealed a positive relationship between supervised occupational experience program scope and the following independent variables: length of teaching contract (r = .66), teacher having high school vocational agriculture (r = .27), percentage of students from a rural area (r = .51), teacher assistance with fairs (r = .30), and number of supervisory home visits (r = .45). In addition, there was a positive relationship between FFA chapter activity level and the following independent variables: length of teaching contract (r = .54), teacher having high school vocational agriculture (r = .33), percentage of students from a rural area (r = .48), teacher assistance with fairs (r = .49), and number of supervisory home visits (r = .48).
