Abstract/Summary:
The purpose of this study was threefold: (1) to determine whether teachers make intentional changes in their instructional behaviors; (2) to determine the resources used by teachers in the change process; and (3) to determine whether selected high school principals are aware of the resources used by teachers in the change process.;The responses from teachers were summarized and trends were identified. Then, the responses from principals were summarized and trends were identified. Finally, the trends of the teachers and the trends of the principals were compared and contrasted.;The main findings of this study were that teachers do make intentional changes in their instructional behaviors. In addition, teachers use different resources to assist them in the various stages of the change process. Finally, principals as a group were inconsistent in their ability to identify the resources used by teachers in the change process.;Based on the findings of this study, it is recommended that staff development for teachers be individualized, the regular communication lines be established between teachers and administrators, and that principals be trained as facilitators of change.;Data for this study were gathered through semi-structured interviews with high school teachers and principals. Participants were also asked to complete several questionnaires pertaining to the resources used by teachers in the intentional change process.
