Abstract/Summary:
Pastors who lead within the context of Restoration Movement churches (independent Christian Churches/Churches of Christ) are particularly susceptible to experiencing burnout symptoms due to prolonged exposure to ministry stressors. With no centralized leadership over this collection of 5,320 churches and its 9,033 pastors, there is no designated protocol for providing psychological support for Restoration Movement pastors who are burned out or trending towards burnout.;Data revealed that anxiety associated with pastoral stress and burnout is mediated by a broad spectrum of pastor responses, ranging from leaving the ministry to finding help through counseling. The study results indicate that there are pastors who are divinely called to Restoration church ministry, but they are emotionally exhausted and struggling to continue in their calling. Appropriate psychological support has been shown to revive these capable leaders and refresh their leadership potency.
