Abstract/Summary:
This study identified academic variables that statistically relate to the professional course cumulative grade point average (GPA) of allied health baccalaureate degree graduates. A nonexperimental, quantitative, relationship study was utilized as the research design to explore the correlation between multiple preprofessional academic variables and cumulative professional course GPA of diagnostic medical sonography, medical radiography, nuclear medicine technology, and radiation therapy graduates. The results for all allied health programs graduates collectively identified the Cross Sectional Anatomy final course grade and the preprofessional GPA as academic predictors for the professional course GPA. The results for the individual programs of diagnostic medical sonography, the medical radiography, and nuclear medicine also identified the Cross Sectional Anatomy final course grade and the preprofessional GPA as academic predictors for the professional course GPA. The radiation therapy program was the only population in which the cumulative college-level math and science GPA was identified as the academic predictor for the professional course GPA. The study identified academic variables that can be utilized in the future selection process of students seeking education in the allied health programs of diagnostic medical sonography, medical radiography, nuclear medicine technology, and radiation therapy.
