Abstract/Summary:
The United States of America is one of the most generous countries in the world when it comes to contributions to charitable organizations. The design and creation of charitable organizations are specifically for philanthropic purposes, such as nonprofits. Benevolent organizations exist to make a better way of life socially, educationally, scientifically and religiously for the good of people and other groups. Most tax-exempt establishments reflect charity, including faith-based organizations such as the church. Many believe the church financial and operational processes are different from secular nonprofit, while some believe the church should be separate from the state, and others trust it is the church's responsibility to be transparent just as the state is. Furthermore, there are some that believe there may be social issues and/or religious beliefs that may exist, that can encourage or discourage openness in Black Baptist churches. Finally, this dissertation will discuss the differences of financial lucidity in religious nonprofit organizations, as well as the perceptions and beliefs of the church and transparency.
