When visual system receives the information from the visual scene, perception will organize the visual elements with the similar character into an entirety automatically, which is called visual object. Representing multi-featured objects is a fundamental task for the perceptual system. Object file is a post hoc temporary representation of binding features. Kahneman, Treisman,&Gibbs (1992) created object file theory. This theory claims that object file is a mid-level representation, which is a temporary episodic representation that binding the features of an object together by location. Location is the tag of object file, which also acts as the retrieval cue for accessing the object. Object correspondence is established by spatiotemporal continuity. The information of an object is stored in object file. A lot of researches about object file were conduct, but there are still two questions haven't been solved: one is the roles of spatiotemporal information and surface feature information in object correspondence; the other is what types of information are stored in object File. Kahneman considered that only spatiotemporal information, rather than surface feature information, is the key cue in object correspondence. Some researchers found that the object correspondence could be established on the basis of surface feature cues. Some researchers proposed that how much the visual system relies on each of the factors depends on how reliable the information is. Gordon&Irwin (1996,2000) believed that object files encodeed postcategorical information, rather than precise physical information, while Mitrof, Scholl,&Noles(2007) found that object files could store not only abstract types from long-term memory, but also specific tokens from online visual experience. In the present study, an object-reviewing paradigm was used and two series of experiments were conducted to investigate the role of spatiotemporal information and surface feature information in object correspondence and what types of information may be stored in object file.In series1, objects were disks and several unfamiliar figures were used as the previewing and testing stimuli. There were two kinds of motions, one was visible motion and the other was tunnel motion. Different reliable spatiotemporal information could be used as the cue of object correspondence in the two motions. Experiment1A and1B investigated whether the two motions could provide valid spatiotemporal information to guide object correspondence. Experiment2A and2B investigated how object correspondence was affected when the spatiotemporal cue and surface feature cue were congruent. Experiment3A and3B investigated how object correspondence was affected when the spatiotemporal cue and surface feature cue were conflict. In series2, objects were faces and emotions were used as the previewing and testing stimuli. Visible emotions were used as previewing stimuli in experiment4and emotional words were used in experiment5. Visible emotions were used as test stimuli in both experiments. The main findings of this study are as follows:(1) Spatiotemporal information of Different kinds of motions has different reliability. Object correspondence guided by more reliable spatiotemporal information is more explicit.(2) When spatiotemporal cue and surface feature cue were congruent, object correspondence was constructed on both cues.(3) When spatiotemporal cue and surface feature cue were conflict, the reliability of spatiotemporal information would influence the relative weight of the two cues. When the reliability of spatiotemporal information was high, object correspondence was constructed on spatiotemporal cue, while surface feature cue was not consulted. When the reliability of spatiotemporal was low, both cues were consulted, which disrupted object correspondence.(4) Object file can store not only physical information of emotions, but also abstract types of emotions.
