On the basis of empirical and social historical analysis research method,this dissertation mainly studies the purports of the following seven poems written in the late Western Zhou Dynasty: Chu Ci,Xin Nan shan,Fu Tian,Da Tian,Xiao Wan,Wu Jiang Da Che,Xiao Ming.They are all included in Book of Songs.This dissertation is composed of two parts,the main body and the appendix.The body consists of introduction,text and conclusion.The introduction first states the origin of the study.Through the review of the related research,the significance of this research,the research content and research methods is introduced.The main body consists of four chapters verifying the purports of the seven poems in turn.The first chapter verifies the four poems Chu Ci,Xin Nan shan,Fu Tian,Da Tian.The second,third and fourth chapter discusses the Xiao Wan,Wu Jiang Da Che,Xiao Ming in turn.The last part,conclusion,briefly introduces the ideas and contents of each chapter,and clarifies briefly the preliminary consideration reflected in the historical cultural meanings based on textual research.The appendix is a supplement to the text.Because a large number of vintage works are consulted and quoted,study and comparison on the time,author,and the purports of the seven poems are compiled to be the appendix so as to expound the related research historical data at the same time avoid being too cumbersome.The innovation of this paper is mainly embodied in the new textual criticism of the purports of the seven poems.In this process,a comprehensive evaluation of the existing research is elaborated,and its merits and demerits are analyzed.By doing so,improvement and addenda to the previous researches is supplemented and new arguments are proposed so as to elaborate purports of the seven poems in a more specific and credible way.The main idea of each chapter is as follows:The four poems Chu Ci,Xin Nanshan,Fu Tian,and Da Tian was not composed before King Xuan Dynasty.The focus of these poems is in praise of the beauty and benefits of “Ji Li”.According to the historical materials about the Li,Xuan and You dynasty recorded in those books such as Guo Yu,it might be inferred that the four poems are not a live record of “Ji Li”,but written to encourage the king to restore this ritual activities “Ji Li” by nobles having a conservative view of the economic system with fundamental purpose to maintain the “Ji Tian” system that is gradually declining at late Western Zhou.Xiao Wan is written by an honest bureaucrat or clan elder who was touched by moral degeneration.This poem is intended to warn his colleagues or relatives that they should maintain a noble style,strive to serve the country,indoctrinate descendants to tide over the difficult times,which reflects his sense of urgency.Wu Jiang Da Che is a self medicating poem.The author lived in the late Western Zhou Dynasty characterized by moral degeneration and political corruption.He felt helpless,and wanted to hide away from the crowd,so he wrote this poem.This commentary is available from the 21 st poetic bamboo slip of Chu in the epoch of Warring States.Through the textual research about the time,place,or person of the poem,it can be concluded that Xiao Ming may be written by “Wei Wu gong” or his followers.In order to maintain their state of existence,they went to the “Zong Zhou” again in the late Western Zhou Dynasty,the capital of Zhou.Xiao Ming written in the late Western Zhou Dynasty is a poem to express his volition to stand the crisis but at the same time sense of helplessness and sadness.
