Research On Localization Of Western Narratology In Contemporary Chinese Context

Chinese localization research of Western narratology is a huge topic,but it is a very critical issue currently and many delicate issues are not yet fully emerged thereinto.Combing the acquired academic achievement,grasping the current research situation and finding the problems in research are very important significance for domestic narratology research's method and direction.At first,it needs to note that the discussed "localization" issue in this thesis belongs to not only the common issue in Western Comparative Poetics,but also the narratology own development.These both are at the cross.Therefore,it is necessary to think the issue from Chinese-Western Comparative Poetics and put forward the research origin.It can be said that "localization" has been aware of and put forward at the beginning of Chinese-Western Comparative Poetics,and it very closely associated with each other in the dialogues of the eastward transmission of western sciences and Chinese-Western literary theory.For the rules of dissemination and acceptance,there is the "localization" issue for any kind of exotic thoughts and cultural resources.At present,many scholars analyze the "localization" connotation from "globalization","chinization" and "nationalization".After the comprehensive survey of domestic scholars' various "localization" studies,the author adopts the analysis method of Chinese context,because contextualization is the utterance of cultural studies and must continuously be historicized and localized with practice.Therefore,there is a positive relationship between "localization" and Chinese context.In accordance with the context transitions in the three decades of the new era,which are the "unified" context in the first decade,the "diversity" context in the second decade and the "multiple dialogue context" in the third decade,the author basically analyzes the corresponding “localization” connotation,in which Western literary theory translation is introduced for interpretation and comparison,and Western literary theory dialogue is constantly deepened.Since narratology is introduced into China,its "localization" course also follows the above basic clues.In the "unified" context in the first decade,"localization" is "chinization" actually.Mainly,Western literary theory is expressed with Chinese mode,because the main task is translation.In the "diversity" context in the second decade,Western literary theory is continuously interpreted and applied on the basis of translation.Therefore,this "localization" context no longer expresses "chinization" simply,but the new connotation of "chinization" on the basis of Western literary theory spirit understanding.Therefore,“localization" is not simply equal to the original "chinization" from this perspective,In "multiple dialogue" context in the third decade,"localization" is not only the eastward transmission of western sciences,but also closely linked with "globalization".Correspondingly,"localization" not only absorbs heterogenous culture in the native place,but also assimilates heterogenous culture to create a national culture.Only,this can participate in the dialogue.In accordance with the above context changes,Chinese "localization" connotation of Western Narratology is expanded from four levels.Firstly,Chinese translation of Western Narratology is actually translation chinization of Western literary theory utterance.Secondly,Chinese interpretation of Western Narratology is actually chinization for Western literary theory utterance spirit.Thirdly,Chinese-style application of Western Narratology is actually interpretation chinization of classics and experience for Western utterance.Fourthly,Chinese narratology's self-conscious construction is actually Chinese literary dialogue requirement excited below Western literary theory.In order to facilitate this study,Chinese interpretation and Chinese-style application are respectively discussed and they are often integrated one.Therefore,four levels are correspondingly formed for three contexts.It is worthy to explain that four levels roughly correspond to three contexts by the sequence,but the time is not completely independent and is intertwined each other.Nor is it strictly according.According to this understanding for "localization" connotation,the following five aspects are discussed in this thesis.Firstly,there is Chinese translation research of Western Narratology below the localization perspective.This section includes two elements.Firstly,the basic ideas and the theory evolutions of Western Narratology are combed.For this purpose,the historical origins of narratology thought are reviewed.They are mainly the imitational and narrative distinction of Plato and the relevant thought in Aristotle's Poetic.The direct ideological source of combing narratology is from Russian formalism and Anglo-American new criticism.The specific process from French structuralism to classic narratology is analyzed.Todorov,Genette,Barthes and Bremond are introduced intensively and briefly.Then,post-structuralism and deconstructivism are analyzed.On this basis,post-classical narratology's genres are mainly rhetorical narratology,feminism narratology,cognitive narratology and non-literal media narrative,which are all introduced detailedly.Secondly,there is the literature analysis of Chinese localization process for Western Narratology.The author compiles the domestic relevant literatures and theses.The author also applies the mathematical methods to make the detailed literature analysis,including Chinese localization's venational,overall and specific literature analyses of Western Narratology.The more detailed study is conducted from researchers,research objects,research trends,research methods and many other aspects.By the literature analyses,the problems and the characteristics of the current domestic narratology research are summarized.Secondly,there is Chinese interpretation research of Western Narratology in localization context.This section includes three elements.One is the unity issue between terminology translation and application in Western Narratology.Therefore,the author firstly takes some translation as an example to analyze the problems and the reasons in the narratology translation,which are mainly the interference between translation culture context and existing knowledge,and the contradiction of the author's thought development.Secondly,there is the in-depth study of the theory misreading issue of Western Narratology.The author takes narrative perspective and narrative structure as an example to describe in detail.Such as for "narrative perspective" understanding confusion below localization circumstance,the author makes clarification and creatively puts forward his own understanding frame about perspective.In the problem analysis of the current domestic "narrative structure" research,the author firstly points out a variety of representations,classification arbitrariness and deep theoretical misunderstanding of the domestic "narrative structure".Then,the author presents to accurately grasp a few key points of "narrative structure",such as the relationship between "narrative structure" and "meaning",the importance for grasping "narrative structure" from "function",the hierarchy of "narrative structure" and the diversity of "narrative structure".In this thesis,many similar misreading problems are pointed out and are taken seriously.Thirdly,there is the strengthening aspect in the overall study of Western Narratology theory category.The author selects a large number of English category and corresponding translation to conduct the exploratory comparative study of Western Narratology's theory category and carry on the innovative research of category classification and category system.Thirdly,there is Chinese-style application research of Western Narratology.This section includes two elements.One is the gain and loss matter to use narratology theory for Chinese textual criticism.Narratology influencing the contemporary Chinese text criticism theory is undoubted and it produces a lot of inspiration for the contemporary Chinese novel theory criticism concept.According to the macro and micro aspects of textual criticism,it is explained to comb the main types of important achievement and text analysis,and the important topic of text analysis.On this basis,Greimas' symbol matrix theory is used to point out the specific problems of critical analysis in the text,which are mainly expressed accuracy,critical theory application misreading and mechanical applying theoretical framework.Thus,the common problems in the current text criticism are thought.Secondly,Western Narratology influences Chinese text creation practice.At first,it is explained that narratology influences Chinese contemporary novel creation.This is mainly reflected in narrative perspective and narrative structure.Then,it is analyzed that narratology influences Chinese contemporary movie and television play.Mao Zedong is taken as an example to explain the ideological narrative strategy and the narrative effect in movie and television play..Fourthly,there is the self-conscious construction research between local consciousness and Chinese narratology.This section includes three elements and aims to explore Chinese narratology issues excitated below Western Narratology.Firstly,there is the perspective issue between major scholars and theoretical study of Chinese narratology.Mainly,Yang Yi et al.have the constructing ideas and attempts of Chinese narratology's theoretical system.Fu Xiuyan and Dong Naibin make the history research arrangement of Chinese narratology.Zhang Kaiyan and Gao Xiaokang make the cultural narratology and Chinese narrative analysis.Andy Pu and the other foreign sinologists make the comparative study on Chinese narratology.There are also many scholars,who make Chinese narratology obtain the great achievements.Secondly,there are evaluation and reflection for Chinese narratology.They are the basic framework of Western Narratology,such as narrative structure,narrative space,narrative perspective,narrative figure,narrative thing and narrative author,which are fully applied and are somewhat innovative.There are many unique creations of narratology based on Chinese poetics,such as narrative occurrence,narrative imagery,narrative technique and narrative temperament.Finally,there are the noticeable problems in the research of Chinese narratology,including continuing to explore the abundant resources available for research,expanding the constantly thought methodology in research methods and grasping the interlinked characteristic and development trend of Chinese narratology and post-classical narratology.Based on the above,there is the general thinking in the fifth section,which is the theoretical method issue research of Western Narratology's Chinese localization.This is the conclusion of the thesis and there are three elements in this section.Firstly,for the path choice,the possibility of dialogue is analyzed from different cultural thinking.For this purpose,being culture aphasia,the primary issue in Chinese-Western literary theory comparison is proposed.Then,the several theoretical views of the current Chinese-Western comparison study are summed up and they are some research methods for narratology,including history method,logical interpretation,induction,comparison reference method and roundabout entry method,which are explained one by one.Secondly,the possible paths of Chinese-Western narrative theory accommodation are studied,on the basis of absorbing the above methods.The unity between Chinese narratology's generality and uniqueness should be adhered to at the starting point.Chinese narrative tradition is sought from Chinese culture origin.Chinese narratology's uniqueness manifestation should be studied.Chinese narratology's uniqueness root should be thought.Chinese narratology's evaluation criteria should be established.The author believes that we must firstly seek common ground in difference and pursue significance communication in the both thinking frameworks.Next,we must seek difference from similarity and find theory difference in similar thought clue.At last,we should make mutual exchange and stimulate new dialogue space from blank and crack.In the discussion,a lot of narratology theories and concepts are selected to conduct the lively explanation.Thirdly,on the basis of the above,the author takes the narrative feature of The Analects of Confucius as an example to analysis.In the text analysis,the various methods of Western Narratology are comprehensively and cooperatively to highlight the narrative localization characteristics of The Analects of Confucius.Consequently,Chinese localization theme of Western Narratology is responded in the thesis.It is worth noting that the related content of Western Narratology's localization study is extremely complex and the relevant scholars' works are extremely extensive.Therefore,when sketching out the basic line,we need to stress the key point at the same time,in which there are full and accurate information,concerned issue and theoretical depth.Therefore,this thesis attaches great importance to selection,logic way and discussion method.The research methods include literature research,comparative research and theoretical research.Thereinto,for literature research,not only is the overall macro analysis conducted,but also the accurate microscopic statistics is made.In the thesis,there is obvious issue awareness,in which the "misreading" issue during Chinese localization process of Western Narratology is more detailedly cleared up,presented and discussed.About the research ideas,category analysis is an entry point in the thesis,which always focuses on some important narratology categories and reflects the theoretical level.The combinative principle of history and logic's unification,theory and example is adhered to.It is possible to grab some cutting-edge issues and difficult issues to study.Therefore,the narratology basic theories are largely referred to and researched.From the writing results,the intended purpose is basically attained.Nevertheless,due to the abundant connotation of "localization" and the length,there are many ignored contents,which will be the continuous research tasks in the next stage and in the future.
