Fei Ming is a very unique existence in the history of modern Chinese literature.This kind of uniqueness not only means that he has constructed an aesthetic Utopia in the turbulent days with his gifted pen,but also says that,based on his personal experience,he has fully taken advantages of all kinds of factors that can be used to construct the modernity of Chinese literature,which is of great significance.The construction of modernity of Fei Ming's literature not only features as the rheology of"time",but also expresses as the "spatial" personal experience.This dissertation takes time as the main thread and analyzes the different representations of his construction of modernity in different periods.At the same time,the dissertation also deals with his special life experiences in different spaces,in order to combining time with space to reveal the distinctive performance and significance of his construction of modernity in literature.Taking time as the thread,Fei Ming's construction of modernity in his literature world mainly covers three phases.The first one is the starting period.In this period,influenced by the May fourth New Culture Movement,Fei Ming regarded Enlightenment as his creation goal in the overall direction,and mainly used "realistic" tactics as his creation approach to reveal the bleakness of life of the underprivileged.The second one is the characteristic period.After the climax of the May 4th New Culture Movement,the group gradually split.Fei Ming jumped from the train of Enlightenment and began to explore the forms of art.In this period,he took(in time)the western symbolism poetics as the nutrient,and traced back to the traditional Chinese culture as the foundation.Based on the hybridity of the Eastern and Western aesthetics,he gradually formed his own artistic style focused on "aesthetic".The third one is the conversion period.During this period,the construction of modernity of Fei Ming's works gradually shifted from literature layer to culture layer.Facing the disastrous consequences of the war,he developed a strong suspicion of modern western culture.So that he advocated to return to the tradition and rebuilt the Chinese culture tradition.Corresponding to the changes in time,the conversion of "university" to "folk" also took place in Fei Ming's living space.When dwelling in the ivory tower of the intellectual,what Fei Ming focused on in his literature works are mainly about the humanitarian concern of the underprivileged people and the aesthetic pursuit of literary independence.After he went deeply into the folk,Fei Ming got a deeper understanding of the living condition of the lower class,then he treated the peasant-culture as the departure point.,on the one hand,he expanded the scope of his modernity of literature from individual to group,on the other hand,his thinking of construction of modernity returned from the west to the homeland.Finally,in the process of constructing the modernity of literature through both time and space,there is also a very important factor must be involved in,which is Buddhism.In the history of modern Chinese literature,Fei Ming was the writer most influenced by Buddhism but for Li Shutong.The influence of Buddhism in his construction of modernity was reflected not only in his creative writing,but also in the way of thinking and life-experiencing.It can be said that ignoring Buddhism is far from enough to highlight the characteristic of Fei Ming's literature construction of modernity.Therefore,in addition to the enlightenment,literariness and aesthetic,I establish another chapter of Buddhism to fully demonstrate the great importance in the process of Fei Ming constructing his literary modernity.Only in this way can Fei Ming's literary modernity construction truly reach the combination of universality and particularity.Throughout the modernity construction of Fei Ming's literature,we can see his contribution to modern Chinese literature:for one thing,he has built up an overall pursuit of enlightenment in response to the times as his goal;for another,he has made a unique and in-depth reflection on the traditional Chinese culture/literature and modern western culture in terms of aesthetic and culture.It can be said that Fei Ming has shown his unique charm with his posture of seeking differences between the similarities.Today,this kind of charm should not be forgotten,furthermore,it should be given real attention and reflection in the age of cultural deficiency and shallowness.This may be where Fei Ming's eternity value lies.
