This dissertation takes the revolutionary history paintings collected and created by the Revolutionary History Museum from 1950 s to 1960 s,the national major history paintings from 2004 to 2009,and the Chinese civilization and history paintings from 2011 to 2016 as the research objects,and intends to study the Chinese contemporary history paintings from the perspective of art sociology,attempting to explore the relevant issues of contemporary Chinese historical painting through the concept of “revolution”,identity and cultural identity,and to reveal the contemporary cultural attributes and aesthetic direction behind the historical paintings.Art is not only a reflection of social life,but also can in turn have a certain impact on social life.This interactive process makes the four aspects of art works,art creators,art audiences and social life form a connected whole.To investigate the artistic problems of Chinese art creation with historical theme comprehensively,it has to be put into the whole of this connection and given attention to these four aspects at the same time.The first chapter sorts out the concept of historical painting,discusses the function,concept,characteristics and modernity of historical painting;the second chapter is divided into two levels: consciousness(ideology)and space(exhibition space),and deeply analyzes the time and space consciousness,exhibition concept,historical painting creation under the guidance of ideology,and historical painting creation concept by the view of realism.The third chapter focuses on the concept and consciousness of revolutionary history,revolution and national form,and analyzes the painting concept and language of revolutionary history painting from the perspective of revolutionary consciousness;the fourth chapter analyzes the background of the times when the art creation project of major historical themes started,and examines the formation process and concept connotation of the creation orientation of the main melody since the 1980 s.The fifth chapter analyzes the narrative concept and historical consciousness of the art creation with historical civilization theme through the historical narrative turn caused by the cultural problems under the background of Globalization,and discusses the cultural identity and historical memory,expounding the internal relationship between the poetic narration of historical paintings and the form of modernism.The historical view of revolution is the key to the art creation of revolutionary historical themes,and also the source of the creation orientation of the main melody since the 1990 s.It is also closely related to the rise of nationalism.The art creation activities of revolutionary historical themes have established a new mode of Chinese contemporary historical painting creation,promoted the institutionalization of the art creation project of historical themes,made it a cultural policy of the Chinese government in the new century,and had an important impact on Chinese contemporary art.Art creation of major historical events and historical civilization theme is in the same line with revolutionary historical concept in the logic of historical narrative,but has changed in the concept of historical narrative,which has contributed to the change of diversified styles and modernist forms of historical theme painting in the prospect of realism since the new century.
