A Research On Funeral Vocabulary In Pre-Qin

The object of this paper is Chinese funeral words which belong to the specific semantic category of dynastic research in Pre-Qin Dynasty,including Chinese funeral buildings,funeral costumes,funeral utensils,funeral supplies and funeral names.Based on the achievements of traditional exegetics and the methods of traditional and modern semantics,this paper uses sememe analysis theory,cognitive theory of metaphor and metonymy to describe the funeral words in the Pre-Qin Dynasty in a synchronic and static way,and makes a diachronic analysis and discussion on their meaning evolution and rules.Firstly,460 noun funeral words which are closely related to the funeral contents in the classical literature corpus of the Pre-Qin period are sorted out and classified into five categories according to their semantic characteristics: funeral buildings,funeral costumes,funeral utensils,funeral supplies and funeral names.Then they are divided step by step to describe the Chinese funeral words in the Pre-Qin period synchronically and statically,and from the semantic attributes and generative attributes.By analyzing the terms in each category from three aspects of attributes,this paper explores the characteristics of funeral words in Pre-Qin Dynasty in terms of semantic differences,source of meaning,morphological structure and evolution.Secondly,from the perspective of diachronic dynamics,this paper analyses the evolution and development of the meaning of funeral words in Pre-Qin Dynasty.The research on the change of the meaning of funeral words in the Pre-Qin Dynasty is mainly through the investigation of the extended relationship of the meaning of funeral words,the analysis of the ways and types of the extended meaning of funeral words;the result of the change of the meaning of funeral words is mainly through the analysis of the scope changes between the new and old sememes involved in the extended meaning of funeral words,the analysis of the expansion,reduction and transfer of sememes,and then discusses the characteristics and rules of the evolution of the meaning of funeral words in the Pre-Qin Dynasty.Finally,based on the analysis of the change of the meaning of the funeral words in Pre-Qin Dynasty,this paper explains the extension of the meaning of the funeral words in Pre-Qin Dynasty under the influence of metaphorical and metonymic cognition,and explores the cognitive mechanism and motivation of the change of the meaning of the funeral words in Pre-Qin Dynasty.As a special vocabulary study of Chinese in the Pre-Qin Dynasty,this paper combines quantitative survey with qualitative analysis,makes an exhaustive examination of the words related to funeral contents seen in the documents handed down from the Pre-Qin Dynasty,counts the frequency of their use in literature and classics,and gives examples for analysis;it combines synchronic static description with diachronic dynamic analysis to explore the systematic composition and meaning of funeral words in the Pre-Qin Dynasty.At the same time,historical documents and cultural references are combined to make a detailed analysis of the semantics of funeral words and the semantic differences of the same kind of words.
