Gao-jia clan is a typical representative of the families of the Imperial Household Department that rose up in the middle of Qing dynasty.Gao-jia clan rose from a lower class to a hereditary dignitary,which is a quite typical in the families of the Imperial Household Department.Gao-jia clan is unique for its multiple characteristics in the Manchu,Mongolian and Han families of the Imperial Household Department.It is embodied in the honorable status and marriage with the royal family,and Gao family is a Han surname,but it is highly Manchurian,and it does not start with military achievements but has outstanding military achievements,and there are very few imperial examinations in Gao family,but the family was obsessed with Confucian culture.The father,son,uncle and nephew of Gao family were killed for a crime,but the family did not collapse.Therefore,Gao-jia clan is a very characteristic family in the Imperial Household Department.About the rise and fall of Gao-jia clan,academia lacks systematic and comprehensive investigation.Based on the collection of Manchu and Han archives,this paper systematically combs the development of Gao-jia clan,to conduct a more in-depth study on the family members' career,performance,corruption and other issues,as well as social networks(Manchu-Han relations).This paper summarizes the characteristics of Gao family through the comparison with other Manchu clans,and then discuss the commonness and characteristics of the families the Imperial Household Department and its role in the country's military and political affairs and even cultural construction.This paper consists of introduction,text and conclusion.The introduction mainly introduces the significance,current status,methods,object definition and other contents.The text is divided into five chapters:The first chapter is based on the Gao-jia's genealogical tree in Fengtian and one family record in the 56th year of Qianlong reign,combing the origin and lineage of Gao-jia clan.The second chapter studies the rise and fall of Gao-jia clan.The ancestors of Gao-jia clan was poor.Since Gao Bin supervised royal weaving,he worked diligently and devoted to his duties,and gradually promoted,so the family has begun to prosper.The daughter of Gao Bin is the imperial concubine of Emperor Qianlong and this make Tai Qi in the whole Gao clan,Therefore,they entered the manchurian aristocratic stratum.Gao Jin's father and son worked hard for the country and became outstanding governors of Manchu and Han and promoted the continued development of Gao family.What made Gao family lose its reputation was that five sons and nephews led by Gao Heng were executed for spoils.Although many future generations served as the official post of the government,but they have few achievements,leading to the decline of the family.Merit and imperial power played a decisive role in rise and fall of the aristocratic family.The third chapter discusses the officials' situation and ways of entering officials of Gao-jia clan.This chapter analyzes the social background and reasons of the numerous officials and wide ways of Gao family.It points out that the main reasons for Gao-jia clan's veneration in the time of Qianlong reign are the distinguished officials,marriage with emperor's family and Manchu identity.The fourth chapter sorts out the historical events of Gao-jia clan's five officials who were successively punished for corruption,analyzes the reasons why they were punished and their influence on the family and society,and emphasizes the decisive role of the supreme imperial power in the rise and fall of the family.The fifth chapter restores the social network of Gao-jia clan.The members of Gao-jia clan are obsessed with Confucian classics and have frequent contacts with Han literati,forming their own cultural communication network and promoting cultural development in the places like Jiangnan.The formation of the marriage network of Gao-jia clan is closely related to the growth and decline of family power.With the expansion of power and prosperity of Gao family background,the choice of the partner in marriage has also undergone important changes.Gao family paid great attention to family background and build up complicated marital relationship with the royal family,the families of the Imperial Household Department and the Manchu dignitaries.The conclusion.On the basis of summarizing the main points of the full text,this paper summarizes the characteristics of Gao-jia clan,a Han family,and compares the similarities and differences with other families,and then discusses the relationship between the family of the Imperial Household Department and Qing dynasty's politics,military,economy,culture and society.
