| As the most influential historical events in Spain and Europe in the twentieth century,the Spanish Civil War(1936-1939)and the post-war Franco dictatorship(1939-1975)have been the driving force in splitting and reshaping the politics,society and culture of contemporary Spain.How to represent the Civil War memory in the evolution of Spanish society has been the focus of attention in the post-war Spanish literature.Under the joint effect of the tortuous development and intergenerational alternation of the memory discourse of the civil war in postwar Spain,the Civil War literature has evolved from silence to outbreak,from the articulation of individual memory to the reconstruction of collective memory,and then to the reflection on cultural memory.This process is always marked by the evolution of the identity,the dynamic cognition and values of the memory.However,most of the current studies focus on a particular theme of Spanish Civil War writing,and the research paradigm is limited,lacking a holistic and diachronic study on the development of Civil War writing,and few in-depth studies of Civil War literary production has focused on memory writing,identity and its value and function.This paper takes the intergenerational differences of the writers and the special development track of the social discourse of civil war memory as the realistic context,diachronically summarizes the evolution of the writing of civil war memory and the characteristics of the times of Spanish literature creation.The research takes the literary representation of memory as an entry point,establishes a typology of civil war memory writing models,focuses on the literary works of the civil war literary boom,and analyses the identity in the memory writing and the value orientation of literary memory,with a view to enriching the literary research in the context of memory theory,and thus providing some reference for future research on Spanish literature and Spanish civil war memory.The thesis is divided into three main parts:the introduction,the main body and the conclusion.Firstly,as the first part,the introduction briefly introduces the background and significance of the study of Spanish Civil War literature,outlines and reviews the current state of research at home and abroad,and then presents the research questions to be addressed.In this part,the theory of memory,memory and identity,and the function and value of literary memory are discussed in the context of the problem,providing a theoretical basis for this study.The main body of the thesis consists of four chapters.The first chapter provides an overview on the development of the Spanish Civil War novel and its chronological changes in a global context,summarizes and comments on the research status at home and abroad,and then puts forward the research problems to be solved.This part combs the memory theory,memory and identity,and the function and value of literary memory,providing a theoretical basis for this study.Through the analysis of carpenter's pencil and sleeping voice,this chapter focuses on the persistence of self-identity and the realization of self and group identity in the civil war individual experience,and discusses the cultural heritage and social value of memory representation writing,so as to highlight the important significance of special memory carrier for memory inheritance.The second chapter stresses the discovery and transmission of the glimmering light of memory in the mode of re-writing.Memory reproduction writing mainly focuses on the memory outside the framework of collective memory,aiming to discover and pass on the vivid individual or group life experiences that have always been obscured by the grand Chinese language,and to uncover the light of humanity and emotion in memory in order to resist the black hole of history.Through the analysis of The Carpenter's Pencil and The Sleeping Voice,this chapter focuses on the perseverance of self-identity and the realization of self and group identity in the civil war individual experience and explores the cultural underpinnings and social value of memory re-writing,thus highlights the significance of special memory carriers for the transmission of the glimmering memory.The third chapter lay particular emphasis on the identity achieved by the reconstruction of memory and the present thinking of memory.Influenced by the alternation of generations,exploration and reconstruction have become the main modes of perception regarding Civil War memories.The writing of memory reconstructions is not a reappearance of memory,but a search for the subject's interpretation and explanation of past memories in the light of one's own historical perception of the Civil War,and then attaches realistic meaning to it,which is a prerequisite for the writing of memory reconstructions.This chapter focuses on the"exploration-reconstruction" framework in the works Soldiers of Salamis and The Frozen Heart,analyzing the multi-genre hybrid character of this writing mode,exploring the special connotation of identity in the process of memory reconstruction,and highlighting the effect of present thinking of memory on the construction of civil war memory under the background of reconstruction and writing double space-time interaction.The fourth chapter explores the reflection and critique of the aesthetic innovation practice on Spanish Civil War writing and memory culture,then analyzes this value.The deconstructive writing of memory attempts to break through the traditional paradigm of memory writing by adopting a metafictional structure to form a model of interaction between narrating and commenting,shifting the focus from the literary creation of memory to an examination of the processes of memory forming and meaning making,and using intertextual writing techniques to deconstruct traditional narrative authority.This chapter uses the works Yesterday's False Hope and Another Damn Novel about the Spanish Civil War!to explore the characteristics of deconstructive writing about memory,illustrating how the works highlight the fictional nature of memory writing in a process of historical and literary intertextuality by adopting the postmodern writing techniques such as counter-narrative,collage and parody,and then reflects and criticizes the current situation and significance of the development of Spanish Civil War memory culture.As an important medium of civil war memory,the writing of civil war memory in Spain always reflects the intergenerational differences in the cognitive view of civil war and the tortuous evolution of the discourse of civil war memory.The last section of this paper draws the following conclusions based on a chronological overview of the evolution of Spanish C ivil War memory writing:as an important medium of Civil War memory,Spanish Civil War memory writing has always been marked by intergenerational differences in the creators' perceptions of the Civil War and the tortuous evolution of the discourse of Civil War memory.Focusing on the writing of memory in the context of the literary explosion of the Civil War at the turn of the century,this study argues that the Spanish Civil War novel has made a leap forward in terms of identity,the function of memory writing and the perception of Civil War memory in the context of three modes of memory writing.In this process,the Civil War has gone through three stages,from a historical event to a literary event,and then to a cultural event.A study of the writing of the Spanish Civil War on this journey will provide insight into the significant impact of Civil War memory on Spanish social culture,ideology and values,and will be of practical reference for future studies of Spanish literature and Spanish Civil War memory. |
