A Study On The New Evidence Of The Relationship Between Guangya Shuzheng

Zhang Yi(张揖)of the Wei Dynasty during the Three Kingdoms period wrote the book"Guang Ya"(《广雅》).The writing style of this book is the same as that of"Er Ya"(《尔雅》).It is another exegetical work explaining the meaning of words after"Er Ya"(《尔雅》).Wang Niansun(王念孙)in the Qing Dynasty wrote the book"Guang Ya Shu Zheng"(《广雅疏证》),which is a masterpiece of the annotation of Guang Ya(《广雅》).According to the theory of"Inference Meanings from Sounds"(“因声求义”),this monograph pointed out a large number of words,which are similar in pronunciation and can interchange with each other.Wang Niansun(王念孙)also revised the relevant and handed-down documents based on these interchangeable characters,and put forward many new viewpoints.This work is highly praised by later scholars.Historically,the research on the theory and practice of Wang’s"Inference Meanings from Sounds"(“因声求义”)has not been comprehensive,and the materials concerning phonetic loan characters in"Shu Zheng"(《疏证》)have not been exhaustively sorted,verified and reviewed.This paper selects several loan characters with different phonetic types in Wang Niansun(王念孙)‘s"Guang Ya Shu Zheng"(《广雅疏证》),including"Supplements and Corrections"(《补正》)as the research objects.Taking“new evidence”as the starting point,this article seeks to combine the handed-down documents as well as the unearthed documents and materials as comprehensively as possible.The“new evidence”research on these interchangeable characters is conducted.Among them,the handed-down documents are mainly materials from the pre-Qin,Han,Wei and Jin dynasties.The unearthed documents are mainly based on the bamboo and silk materials of the Warring States,Qin and Han Dynasties,as well as materials such as inscriptions,inscriptions,bronze mirrors,seals,weapons and ancient characters.Through the study of "new evidence" in this article,there are two main meanings:The first is to enrich the research on interchangeable characters in the handed-down and unearthed documents.This article expands the research horizon of"Guang Ya Shu Zheng"(《广雅疏证》),which not only points out and confirms many new interchangeable characters,but also systematically summarizes the materials,principles,rules and problems of the interchangeable characters in pre-Qin and Han dynasties.The second is that this article re-examines and evaluates Wang Niansun(王念孙)’s phonological theory,phonological conversion theory,and the theory of"Inference Meanings from Sounds"(“因声求义”).Through the research on the situation of the new certificates of 3466 phonetic loan characters,the main conclusions are as follows:Firstly,in"Shu Zheng"(《疏证》),Wang has always combined the rhymes of Dong and Dong,and Wang has divided the rhymes into twenty-two rhymes in his later years,or it is based on harmonic materials.Secondly,among the 3446 phonetic loan characters,the main characters are double-tone or redacted characters,followed by similar tones,and heterogeneous tones are the least.From the perspective of the collocation of the phonological relationship,they are mainly based on similar phonological or dual-phonic rhymes.From the perspective of the distribution of heterogeneous sounds and rhymes,the rules of sounds and rhymes are the same as those of Wang Li(王力)in commonly used,infrequently usedinterchangeable characters.That is to say,the phonetic conditions for the circulation of the phonological parts are inversely proportional,and the circulation of the phonological parts in the non-exemplified interchangeable characters has no obvious inverse relationship.Thirdly,the theory of"Inference Meanings from Sounds"(“因声求义”)in"Shu Zheng"(《疏证》)has broken away from the past habit of freely talking about the sound variation theory.Basically,Wang Niansun(王念孙)strictly abides by the ancient phonetic system to link the relationship between phonetics and semantics,and only a few problems appeared in the connection of individual phrases.Fourthly,the content of“zhuan”(转)in"Shu Zheng"(《疏证》)mainly refers to the phenomenon of the same or similar tones and rhyming parts.Wang has a good use of the scale of phonological conversion theory and practice as a whole,and there is only a small amount of abuse of phonological conversion theory.It is worth noting that most of the special phonetic conversion words belong to the sound expianation,same expianation,cognates,dialect words,nominal words,function words,conjunctions,etc.which are more affected by factors such as time and place.In addition,the phenomenon of special sound variation phenomenon in a small number of scattered the sound expianation,same expianation or similar connotative words is open to discussion.
