Maternal love is an eternal theme since the birth of literature,which contains complex cultural and social factors.With the wide spread of Western feminist gender theory,whether motherhood is an external social system or an internal life instinct has aroused many domestic female writers' thinking.Through the rediscovery of mother's identity,the shaping of mother's image,the carding of relationship of mother and daughter,the establishment of maternal lineage,they highlight the truth of mother's existence,complete the transformation of mother's role from ethical value standard to individual life value standard,and form the unique spiritual connotation of women's writing.This thesis hopes to explore the way to construct women's subjectivity through the study of maternal theme novels since the new era,so that mothers can return from the sky to the real earth and rebuild the paradise of human beings.This thesis consists of seven parts and five chapters,the concrete content is as follows.The introduction first reviews the mother writing in the historical changes.In the long patriarchal society,mother's writing is the cultural code of traditional social ethics.Mother's writing in the May 4th Movement for publicizing human nature,during the revolutionary war,mother's writing integrating into national and state narratives which becoming of mass spiritual conversion,mother's writing in "identity" violence after the founding of the People's Republic of China,all of them internalize mother love into collective unconsciousness,which is the embodiment of the prototype of Mother Earth in different historical and cultural contexts.At the same time,this part defines the concepts of "New Period Literature","Female Literature" and "Motherhood",explains the significance of the topic,the innovation and the key problems to be solved.The first chapter discusses the discovery of mother identity from the perspective of comparison between Chinese and western traditional culture.Motherhood endows women with the richness and complexity of their living experience.For women with mother status,daughter,wife and motherhood should be integrated into one,and one of them is indispensable.A comprehensive understanding of mother should be obtained from the level of "Three Natures".Based on the comparison of gender cultural differences between China and the west,this chapter rediscovers the mother identity in the gender cultural pattern dominated by Confucianism and complemented by Confucianism and Taoism.This chapter discusses the alternation of daughter,wife and maternal nature in the long river of women's life and the rise and fall of life consciousness.It also expounds the practical forms of motherhood and matriarchy in the network of human relations order in feudal patriarchal society.The second chapter explains the multiple meanings of maternal theme novels.This chapter interprets the symbolic meaning of maternal worship from the perspective of prototype theory.This chapter dialectically thinks the natural and social attributes of motherhood from the mother's physiological characteristics.This chapter explores the aesthetic characteristics of Chinese traditional maternal culture combined with Freud's Oedipus complex.The third chapter interrogates the complex human nature through the shaping of mother image since the new era.The image of mother is a multi prism to see through women's living conditions.In this chapter,three kinds of mother images against traditional motherhood are created by female writers: desiring mother,"unsuitable" mother,and gender transgression mother,which show women's survival.Female writers deconstruct the mother myth and reconstruct the subjectivity of motherhood through the reduction of mother's real life form and the examination of negative characteristics of motherhood.The fourth chapter is to return to mother's "back garden" by combing the relationship between mother and daughter since the new era.Women's definition of self is not individual but community,female writers establish their own gender by examining their relationships with their mothers,grandmothers and sisters.This chapter discusses the historical reasons for the broken bond between mother and daughter.This chapter interprets the "lonely city dilemma" of the relationship between mother and daughter in "private writing" from the perspective of psychology.Since the new period,the prosperity of female writers' family novels indicates that women have embarked on the road of seeking their mothers and began to construct female lineage.Since the 1990 s,the theme of family novels created by female writers has identity:the daughter's love road was cursed by the distant matrilineal totem,and finally returned to the "mother's garden".The fifth chapter analyzes the narrative strategy and discourse reconstruction of maternal theme novels.The lack of father narrative in female writers' works is the female writers' gender consciousness after their literary dream of "looking for a man" has been lost in the 1980 s,and has created a large number of powerful mother earth.Because of the lack of father narrative strategy,the mother is in the center of the text.Although the physical father is absent,the spiritual father is still dominant in the family,mother is still surrounded by male dominated discourse.Since the new era,female writers have deliberately alienated themselves from the grand historical narrative,have written the mother's story into the uneven space,have constructed the space images of womb,cellar,room and bathtub.These spatial images have specific cultural metaphors and convey women's secret psychological experience.Since the new era,female writers have expressed their desire to rebuild discourse power by means of autobiographical form,reconstruction of iconographic system and renaming of mothers.In the conclusion part,it looks forward to the development trend of maternal theme novels since the new century.The collision between bottom writing and mothering writing makes mother's unseen difficulties surfaced.Abduction and trafficking of women,surrogate mothers,postpartum depression and full-time mothers are all the problems to be solved in the process of sound maternal personality development.Female writers with gender consciousness and cultural consciousness will write the stories of mothers in the new century into the sky of history with wise thinking,delicate feelings and high humanistic feelings,they will open up a wider sky of maternal writing.Since the new period,female writers have made great achievements in the creation of maternal theme novels.They told us the stories of mothers one by one with beautiful and delicate strokes.Mothers have lived,loved and hated,and have their own "living truth" which is different from any other woman.In the process of writing mother stories,female writers examine and reflect on motherhood from the perspective of subjectivity,which should be the greatest value of maternal theme novels since the new era.At the same time,the construction of maternal genealogy,the construction of spatial image and the narrative strategy of lack of father bring new aesthetic space to female novels.
