This thesis centers around the artistic interpretation of divinity.Taking the examples of wor ks in the art clusters in Dunhuang and Vatican,it discusses and demonstrates the differences in the artistic interpretation of divinity in sculpture,fresco,architectural ornament,etc.Dunhuang and Vatican arts are the essence of Eastern and Western civilizations as well as the classics of Buddhism and Christian art.In this thesis,taking the works of plastic arts of Dunhuang and Vatican,the author has made references to the research methods such as iconology and stylistics in the systemic comparative study of the two arts.The study includes the analysis of their content,art form,means of expression,etc.as well as the explanation of creation subject,social background,religious doctrine,etc.The author has firstly made a brief introduction of the content,historical and social background of plastic arts of Dunhuang and Vatican,at the same time,carried out an analysis of the relationship between plastic art and religious divine thought from the perspectives such as the history of art development,sociology of religion and aesthetics,and discussed how the art works of Dunhuang and Vatican express divine thought in terms of content and form.With the emphasis on the perspective of the language in plastic art,the author has carried out a study on the comparison of the art features of the two,explaining the similarities and differences in terms of technique of expression and artistic style.In attempt to look for the underlying reasons on the basis of connotation and aesthetics of Eastern and Western cultures,the author has made a summary on the art and life,art and spirit as well as other aspects of the works of plastic arts of Dunhuang and Vatican.
