As a frontier theory of contemporary Ecological Ethics,Tom Regan's theory of Animal Rights discusses animal rights in a perspective of philosophy and gives an explanation for the classic philosophical proposition of how should humans treat animals.Focusing on Regan's animal rights, this thesis attempts to explore the theoretical value and practical significance in a relatively deep and systematic way, which provides us with an animal ethical vision based on rights.Carrying out Study on Reagan's thoughts on animal rights not only has important theoretical significance for us to recognize the moral status of animals, but also has strong application value for us to rethink and deal with the relationship between humans and animals. In addition to the introduction, this thesis can be divided into four parts.Among them, the first part, including the first and second chapters,is the study on the reasons for the formation of Reagan's Theory of Animal Rights.Chapter 1 discusses the realistic basis of the emergence and development of Reagan's animal rights theory based on the background of Reagan's life and his life experience.Chapter 2 analyzes the ideological origin of Reagan's theory of Animal Rights, and explores the theoretical basis of it.The third and fourth chapters as the second part, focuses on the main content of Regan's Theory of Animal Rights.Chapter 3analyzes and refines Reagan's views on animals, rights and animal welfare based on the basic ideas of Reagan's theory.Chapter 4 explains the two core viewpoints and five basic principles of Reagan's theory of animal rights on the basis of criticizing the indirect and direct obligations. The third part is the fifth chapter which makes moral judgments on the actual situation of humans' use of animals, and proposes practical demands to respect animal rights. The fourth part includes the sixth and seventh chapters. This part analyzes the theoretical value of Reagan's Theory of Animal Rights.Chapter 6 is a comparative study which compares Regan's theory with other representative contemporary animal ethics thoughts and then analyzes Regan's particular thoughts about animal rights and the meaning of his theory.Chapter 7 summarizes and evaluates the theoretical contributions and limitations of Regan's theory of animal rights on the basis of the previous study, and explores the enlightenment significance of Regan's theory to the development of contemporary animal ethics theory and the social practice of treating animals. The innovations of this thesis are mainly reflected in the following four aspects:Firstly, from the perspective of the entire history of Western Philosophy, the thesis uses inductive and deductive methods to explore the theoretical basis for the formation of Reagan's theory of Animal Rights and compares Regan's ideas with Western Animal Ethics,Ecological Ethics and Vegetarianism. These theories have played an important role in the formation and development of Reagan's theory.Secondly, the thesis penetratingly digs into the theoretical system of Reagan's animal rights thoughts, refines and elaborates on Reagan's views of animals, rights, animal and welfare. As a result,Regan's theory is divided into these three parts.Thirdly, the thesis conducts a comprehensive comparative study of Regan's theory of Animal Rights with other different animal ethics,so that the theoretical characteristics and the significance of Regan's theory can be prudently and objectively evaluated. Finally, the thesis made a study of Reagan's theory of Animal Rights from the perspective of Life Philosophy. On the one hand, this thesis found the similarity between the Philosophy of Life and Regan's Theory of Animal Rights in order to strengthen the philosophical foundation of Regan's theory. On the other hand,by analyzing the core thoughts of Reagan's theory, the thesis objectively put forwards the theory's merits and deficiencies and provides an useful reference for the development of contemporary Animal Ethics.
