Medicine is an old yet new profession.It has formed a unique professional spirit in the long-term historical inheritance.It is the sum of medical professional value that the entire medical community,the whole society and all human beings affirm and advocate.The professional spirit lies in the mind and in the action.How to cultivate and pass this spirit has always been one of the important challenges for international medical education and also a difficult problem for medical education in China.Therefore,the national medical education authorities and medical colleges have long recognized the importance of carrying out medical professional spirit education and have conducted a lot of exploration on the practical level.However,up to now,domestic academic circles have not yet formed a unified understanding of the professionalism of medical college students.As a result,the goal of professional spirit education for medical college students is not clear,the specific training program is not scientific and the training effect lacks objective measure.Furthermore,this makes the educational practice of medical professionalism lose its definite theoretical guidance and planned advancement.Therefore,the effective cultivation of the professionalism of medical college students has become a realistic research topic that needs urgent answers.In view of the extreme lack of theoretical rescarch in this area and the serious shortage of practical experience on this issue,this study used philosophical research,quantitative research and qualitative research as its research methods and the exploration was carried out in four aspects,including theoretical study,current situation research,experience reference and model construction.In the section of theoretical study,the connotation of professionalism was defined first and relevant concepts was also analyzed.Then,emphasis was laid on the theoretical source of medical professionalism education,finding that the theory of respecting life,the theory of cognitive development,the theory of KABP,and the theory of situational education can lay the foundation for the value theory,cognitive theory and methodology of professional spirit education of medical college students.Through theoretical discussion,a series of enlightenments such as re-establishing the new concept of education,penetrating through the whole process of education,highlighting practice as the center and constructing cognitive apprenticeship are concluded.In the part of current research,in order to comprehensively grasp the current situation of the professional spirit of medical college students and the status quo of professional spirit education in China,this study conducted questionnaire survey,interview and college research on medical students,clinical teachers and medical colleges respectively.The research has summarized problems such as the lack of certainty of educational goals,the lack of progressive educational content,the lack of experience in educational process,the lack of modernity in educational methods,the lack of testability of educational effects and the lack of integration of educational systems and etc.In comparative study section,emphasis was laid on the experience of American medical professionalism education.The basic revelation of the American experience is as follows:Establish the concept of "Learning by Doing" in medical professionalism education.Highlight the humanistic value orientation in medical professional spirit education.Attach importance to the application of diverse methods.Explore the establishment of a developmental evaluation system.Reconsider the relationship between the scale and quality of medical education.In the part of model construction,based on the understanding of the cognitive development of medical students and the formation of professional spirit,it was found that different from the education of medical ability,the education of medical professionalism can't be realized merely by knowledge transmitting and behavioral training.However,a three-dimensional interaction and connection between the first classroom(course teaching),the second classroom(practical education)and the third classroom(cultural edification)should be established,so as to promote the effective transformation from cognition to faith and behavior in medical students'professionalism.For this purpose,medical professional spirit education needs to follow the progressive educational design,from the symbolic learning stage to the value learning stage and finally to the meaning learning stage,throughout the whole process of learning.Thus,the "three-dimensional and three-step progressive " method,a new model for medical students' professional spirit education came into being,which penetrates horizontally through the "three-dimensions" and vertically through the"third-steps" and promotes a "spiral rise" of medical students' professionalism.Innovations in this research may include:Firstly,various methods were applied comprehensively to carry out a research on the educational status quo of medical college students' professional spirit,thus making up for the relatively simple perspective in this research field.Secondly,this research attempted to construct a structural equation model of knowledge,faith and behavior in the formation of medical professionalism and clarify the internal relationship between cognition,attitude and behavior in medical professionalism.Thirdly,a "three-dimensional and three-step progressive" model of medical college students' professional spirit education was constructed,providing references for the research on the professionalism education of medical college students in China.
