| In the face of the intensification of climate crisis, the world is seeking more sustainable low-carbon development, and clean energy transition is the key to meet the growing energy demand and reduce carbon emissions.Renewable energy development is the core of the clean energy transition, electrification of energy and cleaner power are important connotations of the clean energy transition, and low-carbon development is an important goal of the clean energy transition.Addressing climate change requires joint action of the international community, and international climate agreements are important measures to influence international clean energy governance, and developing countries also participate in international clean energy governance through the Clean Development Mechanism and other forms.Focusing on international clean energy transition and low carbon development, this paper firstly compares the pattern, differential changes and driving factors of international renewable energy development;takes the Kyoto Protocol and the Clean Development Mechanism as examples, and explores the impact of international climate agreements on clean energy transition and the factors affecting developing countries’ participation in international clean energy governancethen;verifies the carbon reduction effect of energy electrification and the impact of cleaner power on this reduction effect;assesses the level of low-carbon development in various countries and regions and analyzes the mechanism of the effect of clean energy transition on low carbon development. It makes targeted policy recommendations. The main conclusions include:in terms of renewable energy use, most developed countries and a few developing countries such as China and Brazil are in the leading position, while most developing countries have a low level of renewable energy development, and the gap tends to become larger;economic and technological levels, energy dependence, industrial and demographic structures are important factors affecting renewable energy use;the Kyoto Protocol has a significant role in promoting the clean energy transition;most developing countries have a low level of participation in the Clean Development Mechanism, and the level of economic development, international trade experience, energy demand and carbon reduction costs are the primary influencing factors;the level of energy electrification has a significant negative impact on carbon emissions, and this carbon emission reduction effect increases with the increase in the level of clean electricity;developed countries have a higher level of low-carbon development, and clean energy use is both a mediating variable for economic development and R&D investment to promote low-carbon development, and a moderating variable to mitigate the negative impact of industrialization on low-carbon development. The world’s clean energy transition and low-carbon development are still emerging, with developed countries such as countries of the European Union taking the lead in clean energy transition and some developing countries also starting to flourish. In the face of continuous and deep industrialization, the level of clean energy utilization should be raised accordingly with the level of economic development, and investment and R&D should pay more attention to the development of clean energy. The international community should still promote clean energy transition and low-carbon development through international agreements and other effective ways.At present, the international community, especially developing countries, still have great potential in clean energy development, and there is still great room for transnational cooperation in clean energy technologies and other low-carbon technologies. |
