| Historically, women had no voice in the animation industry, while men occupied the important parts of the animation process, such as conception, production and directing.Although we adore all the princesses on the screen, but it seems that men were the ones who turned them into reality in the early days.If you look through the history books on animation--you’ll also notice that not many "female" animators are mentioned. In fact, throughout the history of animation.Since the 1920 s,there was no lack of female animators in every era.Their works conform to the cultural and social trends of different times, reveal the conscious or unconscious feminist color in different historical periods and different social and cultural backgrounds, and show different perspectives from male directors. This paper attempts to reinterpret animation from a feminist perspective and rethink some unsolved problems in feminist film research, that is:Why does feminism need films? Why does animation need female discourse expression? In other words, the individual expressions of body, emotion and femininity in the animated films are not personal views at all,but rather the common experiences and feeling of women. These female animations show that, from mainstream culture to orthodox animation, they have the ability to present and express the personal experience and all aspects of life influenced by patriarchy. This paper will take the problem of the lack of women in the history of animation as the research object, and put the feminist theory into the history and theoretical study of animation.By analyzing the representative female animation directors and their works in the history of animation since 1920 s,the paper aims to reveal the different voices of female animation in different times. This is not only a discussion of western feminism or animation forms, but also an analysis and study of the background, causes and related characteristics of the creation of works, which based on the female creators’ own experience and the basic method of literature research. These analyses will further reveal and enrich the understanding of animation ontology, and explain the reasons for the diversity of female animation discourse expression.Animation gives women the opportunity to voice and express themselves. From the gaze of "the other" to "self-expression",a shift in perception from as "the object to be expressed" to as "the subject to be presented",in order to get rid of the shackles of traditional ideas.Female animators have made their own voices in the way of self-identity.Nowadays,how should we reconsider the issue of women? It’s not static. The ways of modern women for seeking identity are very rich and diverse. We should keep an inclusive and open-minded attitude, look forward to various possibilities in the future. |
