Bodhisattva statues are an important part of Buddhist statues.The concept of "Bodhisattva" appeared around A.D.Bodhisattva images appeared in ancient India around the 1st century A.D.After being introduced to China,they became an important theme of Chinese Buddhist statues.This paper focuses on the statues of Maitreya bodhisattva and Avalokitesvara from the 4th to 6th century in central China,area are mainly in Hebei,Shanxi,Shandong,Henan four areas,and its style from the Angle of image,style,sculpture elements and themes and beliefs,and so on,system interpretation of the northern dynasties in various areas of the central plains bodhisattva as regional style,And the evolution and connotation of bodhisattva statue elements such as bodhisattva gesture,crown,clothing and body fittings.Finally,through the analysis of image records combined with documents,to reveal the bodhisattva belief in each region from the 4th to the 6th century.Based on the above research ideas,this paper will be divided into four parts to systematically study the bodhisattva statues in the Central Plains from the 4th century to the 6th century:The first,the buddhist statues of the period of ancient India your frost,the northwestern Indian gandhara buddhist statues remains the most abundant time earlier,and there are three as the threat of shi,single Buddha bodhisattva as a variety of shape,can be divided into no decoration holds series of bottles of maitreya and decorated with lotus Avalokitesvara series(or not).In The Mathura region of Middle India,there were few bodhisattvas in kushan period.The early "Bodhisattvas" were images of Buddha,but bodhisattvas in real sense appeared after gupta Dynasty.A single bodhisattva was not seen in Amaravati in south India until as late as the 6th or 7th century.The second part is to study the evolution of the Northern dynasties buddhist statues in the central plains localization of hebei,shanxi,shandong,henan region area existing buddhist statues remains classified research,first as far as possible the bodhisattva as comprehensive collection parts,second is divided into different material,shape,summarizes the characteristics of regional buddhist statues,try to show the local features of buddhist statues.The third part is the research on the evolution and connotation of bodhisattva image factors,which focuses on the new source of representative or controversial bodhisattva elements such as lotus hand Avalokitesvara,Buddha crown and bodhisattva double-layer skirt in Yecheng area.The fourth part is a discussion on the themes and beliefs of Bodhisattva statues in the Central Plains of the Northern Dynasty.First,it is the distribution characteristics of the themes of Maitreya bodhisattva and Avalokitesvara in different regions of China.Secondly,it studies the characteristics of the beliefs of Maitreya and Avalokitesvara in different regions through the records of statues.
