From the perspective of publishing,India is a typical country deeply influenced by British culture, and its English literary book publishing has a strong English culture, and is a typical representative of a third world country that has fully accepted the Western-style literary knowledge production and dissemination system characterized by English. The existing organization of publishing institutions, forms of publishing production, and printing production technology in India all originated from the British colonial period, and the same is true for English literary book publishing in India. The conception, emergence and development of English literary publishing in India during the colonial period are typical of the influence of English imperialism on the production of literary knowledge in non-English-speaking countries, and are also representative of the development of a "Center—Periphery"dependent culture. This study aims to take the typical case of English literature publishing in colonial India as the object of study. On the basis of examining its social conditions, sorting out its historical development process, and summarizing its characteristics. This study emploies the theory of dependent development and Wallerstein’s "Center—Semi-periphery—Periphery" world system,to investigate the relationship between the center and the periphery of English literature publication and dissemination between the European colonial powers represented by Britain and colonial India from the perspective of dependent development, analyzing the characteristics of dependent development in the process of knowledge production of English literature in India. Moreover, through the study of the development of dependency in the publication of English literature during the colonial period in India, this study will summarize the damage and injury of Western cultural centrism to the local Indian literature, further grasp the formation of Western culture’s dominant position in the world, and reflect on and criticize Western cultural centrism. The research adopts the method of literature research and case study. In the process of research,a large amount of literature is used, mainly including the texts of Indian English literature books published during the colonial period and many related bibliographic materials of English literature books;investigation reports, laws and regulations, policy documents, etc.on the Indian civil service system and its public examination system during the British colonial rule;relevant original materials of the British colonial authority’s report on the English education system and its implementation effects;relevant Western church institutions and British publishing houses in India Activity literature, etc. The language involved in the literature is mainly English.Through the study of the dependence and development of English literature book publishing in Indian colonial period, the following conclusions are drawn:First of all,the publication of English literature books during Indian colonial period was the inevitable product of English imperialism. The starting point of the British colonial suzerain to promote English teaching and English literature education in colonial India is to try to cultivate a middle class in India by instilling Western ideas and culture to help the British rule India. In this process,English imperialism was continuously formed in India and profoundly affected all aspects of its society.English literature and its book publishing during the colonial period of India is a typical example of the influence of English imperialism on Indian culture and literature. Its gestation, appearance and development are the inevitable outcome of English imperialism in India.Secondly, there is also a "Center—Periphery" structural model in the field of literary book publishing. The dependence and development of English literature book publishing in Indian colonial period in terms of literary genre, literary knowledge production language, and literary knowledge production methods and concepts fully demonstrates the the "Center-Periphery" relationship in the field of literary book publishing between the European colonial countries represented by the United Kingdom and colonial India. Moreover, the typical case of publishing English literature books during the colonial period in India also shows that in the "Center—Periphery" cultural dependency development relationship, the subversion and assimilation of the "Periphery" by the "Center" is undoubtedly the mainstream, and although the compromise, reference, confrontation of the "Periphery" also promotes its own development to a certain extent, this development comes at a price. Finally, reflect on and criticize Western cultural centrism.Western cultural centrism was formed and established through wars and colonial rule, and profoundly influenced the culture and ideology of non-Western countries and regions through colonialist cultural strategies.Today, many decolonized countries and regions represented by India are still deeply influenced by Western English culture in terms of culture and ideology. However, the development trend of world diversification and cultural diversification cannot be violated.Western cultural centrism will inevitably face With an unprecedented impact.Compared with the West, the Communist Party of China is committed to the great development and prosperity of multicultural ism in the world, promotes the building of a community with a shared future for mankind, and contributes Chinese wisdom,Chinese solutions, and Chinese power to the world. At the same time,we must strengthen our self-confidence in values and culture, jump out of the ideological trap of Western cultural centrism, and build a publishing ideological value system with Chinese characteristics based on traditional Chinese philosophical values as a logical starting point, and take the road of development and dissemination of a peaceful culture with Chinese characteristics.
