Study On Ethical Issues Of Memory Control

With the rapid development and wide application of such high and new technologies as brain neuroscience and cognitive science and technology,human intervene and control memory through brain imaging,memory enhancement,memory deletion,memory transplantation,memory repair,etc.Meanwhile,it also leads to a series of deep reflections and continuous questioning of memory and its control.This dissertation is a systematic philosophical reflections and active academic responses to a series of ethical issues brought about by the application of contemporary memory control technologies.It has important theoretical values and practical significance.At present,while the philosophical and ethical research on memory at home and abroad mainly includes memory philosophy,memory research,artificial intelligence and moral memory etc.,the research on the ethics of memory control mainly focuses on the ethics of memory enhancement.This dissertation focuses on the analysis of the major ethical issues triggered by memory control,such as the ethical evaluation of utility,autonomy,personal identity,responsibility ethics,etc.,and tries to propose strategies or paths to solve those ethical issues and challenges.Through literature review,comparative analyses,comprehensive evaluations and systematic integration,it is found that the frontier achievements of Cognitive Neuroscience,Psychological Science and Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technology on memory control at home and abroad provide a solid scientific and technological premise for the research of this thesis.Recent researches on neuroethics,philosophy of memory,ethics of memory and ethics of memory control provide important conceptual basis and ideas for the in-depth analyses of this dissertation.The ethical evaluation of memory control utility is analyzed from the aspects of risk(health risk,ethical risk,social risk)and benefits(health benefits,ethical benefits,social benefits).On this basis,this dissertation proposes a comprehensive ethical evaluation of the effectiveness of memory control.The utility evaluation of memory control involves the differences of cultural values,the cognition of ethical values among individuals and the conflicts of related ethical rules.In order to evaluate the effectiveness of memory control scientifically and reasonably,it is necessary to classify and evaluate different stages and different subjects with different evaluation models.Judging from the results of ethical evaluation of efficacy,the current research on memory control should mainly focus on the use of therapeutic memory control,and the opening of non-therapeutic memory control still requires careful decision-making.Memory control and human autonomy mainly analyze the ethical challenges from three aspects: human dignity,informed consent and privacy.In terms of dignity,human dignity has been seriously violated due to technological intervention;in terms of informed consent,there are different ethical issues and challenges in notification,understanding,voluntary and other procedures due to the high-tech characteristics of memory control.In terms of privacy protection,we face the risk and challenge of memory privacy being leaked.At the same time,in view of these ethical challenges,this dissertation puts forward some countermeasures.For example,the strategies in dealing with the challenges of privacy protection are to promote theoretical and legal research on memory ethics,strengthen the awareness of subjects or patients,and promote the formulation of legal norms for memory control and the construction of a supervision platform.In addition,in the face of the destruction of human autonomy caused by memory control technology,we should be cautious about the research and application of memory control,and use reasonable methods to resolve the risks and challenges brought by memory control.Memory control not only poses ethical challenges to human autonomy,but also has an important impact on personal identity.Memory control and personal identity mainly starts from the concept of personal identity and related theories,especially narrative self theory and analyzes how different memory control methods affect personal identity.According to the narrative self theory,the self is not a constant entity,but a constantly changing process.Personal identity is not all-or-nothing,but a process of dynamic equilibrium.Meanwhile,in order to maintain human identity,it is necessary to use memory control rationally and normatively,and further put forward “Better is the same” and appropriate restrictions on memory control to avoid the loss of personal identity.The responsibility ethics of memory control is mainly guided by the core framework and research ideas of responsibility ethics.It conducts a detailed and in-depth analysis to the responsibility ethics of memory control,explores the ethical practice problems and solutions in the research and application of memory control,and takes the top-down core elements to expand the research route and the bottom-up ethical effect to trace back the route layer by layer.This aims to constantly adjust and improve the existing research ideas,achieve two-way progress,promote the memory control research in resolving ethical issues and facilitate the development of good ethical effects.The study of memory control covers the important dimension of human beings.The application of memory control has brought important challenges to human life value,ethical status of human being and the discipline of ethics.It is based on responsibility ethics and guided by the realization of responsibility.The more detailed and thorough the analysis of responsibility of memory control is,the more conducive we are to put forward strategies to actively and effectively deal with these problems.We propose some strategies to solve these ethical problems,such as carefully evaluating the memory control demands of subjects and families,strengthening the ethical responsibility training of scientists,strengthening the responsibility of medical institutions,and strengthening the government’s responsibility and supervision of memory control.In a word,the ethical issues of memory control is not only an academic topic with both theoretical values and practical significance,but also an important topic with great challenges.This dissertation conducts a relatively systematic study on the ethical issues of memory control,and proposes some new viewpoints(for example,“Better is the same”),and We are looking forward to more excellent achievements in the philosophical and ethical research on memory control to promote the healthy and orderly development and application of memory control,truly making memory control benefit mankind.
